…but not to running. don’t get your hopes up on that one yet.
but just in case you were wondering if I ever did run (I know I wonder sometimes) here is a picture proving that not only did I run, but I was quite happy doing so.
I digress…
this morning I did something that I haven’t done in over 10 years. (side note: the fact that I can utter the phrase “over 10 years” disturbs me… is that just me? I said “it’s been over 20 years” about something to sean yesterday and almost had a heart attack). whoops I digress yet again…
I swam.
and I don’t mean swimming in the “let me lay out by the river or on the lake or by the pool with a cold beverage in my hand and a good gossip magazine so that I can soak up some sun” kind of way, I mean the “I jumped in a pool and swam laps this morning” kind of way.
I’ll be honest – I was terrified. I used to swim competitively, and going back to something with zero baseline endurance when I used to be so good at it was absolutely one of the scariest things I’ve done in a while. do you like how I just mentioned that I was so good at it? in reality I was a fairly decent swimmer, but not a great one
but I did it and I had a lot of fun doing so. sure I got tired immediately and I had to take much longer breaks in between sets than I anticipated, but I realized how much I miss gliding through water so effortlessly.
I was so excited about swimming laps that I even called my dad on the way to work to tell him about it. not that he answered so he still has no idea. which brings me to another point: I’ve realized that recently my parents are turning into teenagers and either screening my phone calls or just flat-out ignoring them and not returning them. I’m not really sure what that’s about. I’ve brought it up to them several times and they just laugh and tell me I’m being ridiculous but I’m noticing a very distinct trend… I’m not sure if this is payback for all the times I screened their phone calls or what the deal is but…. MOM! DAD! if you are reading this then one of you needs to call me back IMMEDIATELY! I called HOURS ago!
wow. random tangent.
anyways, I’ll call that a cardio win! and I’ll be honest, I’ve needed some positive breakthroughs with cardio in my life, especially after my failed spin attempt. but that is another story for another day.
do you swim?? have any good swim routines i can use??
The hubs has been trying to get out pool ready. Not really a lap pool, but last time I did laps in it and took a shower afterwards, I came out of the shower sweating! So I know that’s a good workout and I want to do it some more. I need me some lovely arms.
you and me both. i’m pretty sure i was sweating in the water.
I miss our swimming days….we had so much fun!!
uh yeah, let’s just say today was a much shorter ‘practice’ than any of our swim practices ever were!
Haha, come give me lessons. Seriously. Swimming for me feels so unnatural, awkward, and incredibly difficult. I feel like I look a lot like a cat that just got thrown into a bathtub and can’t get out.
I’m pretty sure most of it has to do with the fact that I can’t really get my head out of the water properly to breathe and so my entire body gets out of line. That’s sort of a problem sometimes.
Yay for cardio that works!
You will be doing Tri’s in no time.
that’s what my dad keeps saying, lol.
and yes! i will teach you! i have years of experience!
I tried swimming for the first time last summer. I don’t know how to swim (my technique is awful and I hear it is all about technique) but thought it was a blast. I changed gyms though, so now I just stick to running.
i actually just switched back to 24 hr solely because they had pools. gotta do what i can while i can’t run!
yay swimming!
Eh, I don’t swim. I mean I can survival swim but I don’t have a good swimming form. I do love the water but exercising it in seems like punishment.
Welcome back, says swimming!
I usually do the float-around-the-pool-and-relax-type swim, so when I first swam to work out, I was shocked that you could sweat while in the pool! It’s great exercise!
That’s awesome! Good for you! And, you aren’t the only one with parents like that…mine are like that too!
I love swimming- just wish I had more time in my schedule for it. It’s so calming & soothing to me to be in the water. I love the strength and cardio training aspects of it, and I should really find time to get it back in a few times a month.
Good for you!! Swimming is tough! I’m only a so-so swimmer and wish I could be better. Lessons, please?
RUDE! lol
Maybe you should get into triathlon!!
I hope your parents finally called you back.
I like swimming too, and have been doing it a lot as training for my upcoming tri. (This sunday eeep!) I like these workouts from active.com
http://www.active.com/swimming/Articles/Swimming-Workouts.htm
and this one from women’s health.

I can run for a long time, and not get bored- but I have to switch it up with swimming or I want to die. Probably because there is nothing to focus on but the bottom of the pool!
Good luck!
This is too funny. I have to comment bc my mom is now the same way. Half of the time I am the one calling her and she cuts off the conversations after 5 minutes! What the heck? Have yet to confront them…
HAHA what the heck is all that about!? so annoying!
